Workshop on Health and Disease Prevention
In 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Words that remain unchanged to this date. But the truth is global functional disability in humans has increased 43% since 1990.
Combining the Therapeutic Yoga with the ancient wisdoms of the traditional Indian Medicine, the Ayurveda. You will have the extraordinary natural treatments, natural food, silence, self-awareness and movements you need to be fully in line with yourself, bringing balance to your body and clarity to your mind.
You will spend 5 days in a completely out of town environment, surrounded by nature and silence in the heart of Alentejo, Portugal.
This will be an intimate retreat for only 6 participants. You will receive individual attention at all activities.
Initially you will have a consultation with Dr. Claudius Nassabi, a medical doctor and experienced ayurvedic physician. He will assess your current health situation, define the appropriate treatments for you during your stay and also will advice you on nutrition and lifestyle adjustments.
When you enroll you will receive a form to be kindly filled as thoroughly as possible. This form will be the base to customize the yoga practice and also to guide the consultation with Dr. Nassabi.
About the Therapeutic Yoga Method
The class starts with a moment of relaxation to calm down the mind and nervous system and prepare for the practice.
As it is an active meditation, students must engage in active listening to follow the class rather than simply copying postures. Students develop their attention and focus through this process, and after some time, the class runs smoothly.
The physical work can be quite intense in the sense that we will work to unblock parts of the body that don't move much, exploring each joint to discover more and treating the whole body, from head to toe!
Each position can be adapted to suit the needs of each student, so that everyone is capable of doing it with special attention to their needs.
The practice aims to restore the body's natural power by identifying blockages and facilitating execution. Mobility is explored, but the greatest impact is on the viscera, blood vessels, nervous system and lymphatic system. This creates more opportunities for the body to heal and grow stronger, acting as an anti-ageing agent.
We use classical positions from Hatha Yoga but also some deconstructed positions to treat the body where necessary. We use some equipment besides the yoga mat as the bolster (a big cushion for multiple purposes), belt and blocks.
The last part of the class is a final deeper relaxation when the students allow the body to integrate all that has been done.
About the Ayurveda
Ayur
means "life"
Veda
means "knowledge"
Ayurveda is probably the oldest traditional healing method in the world. With its writings that are over 2000 years old, Ayurveda has an incomparable precisely documented knowledge base, which has been handed down for thousands of years, first orally from generation to generation and then also in writing. Although the system originated in India, the Ayurvedic healing system can be transferred to the environmental and living conditions of all regions and cultures due to its universal principles. Ayurveda as it is taught and practiced in India today, takes this claim into account. The basic elements of Ayurveda consist in the unity of body, mind, soul and senses, the element-theory, the unity of micro- and macrocosm as well as the interaction of the functional energies vata, pitta and kapha, whose harmonious balance is the basis for health and well-being
In the design of its diagnostic and therapeutic principles, Ayurveda recognizes the absolute uniqueness of the individual in an outstanding way. In this way, Ayurveda gives us humans from Western civilizations a new perspective on illness and discomfort and thus the basis for real healing.

The retreat includes a personalized Ayurvedic treatment every day, determined by Dr. Nassabi following your initial online consultation. Below are some of the specialized treatments that may be prescribed, tailored to your specific constitutional needs and healing goals:
Abhyanga
A therapeutic, full-body oil massage using warm, original oils sourced from Kerala. The oils are selected specifically to balance your unique Dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).
Shirodhara
The continuous and gentle pouring of specially prepared warm liquids (such as oil, milk, or buttermilk) onto the forehead, specifically over the 'third eye' area.
Patra Pinda Sweda
A therapeutic application of heat using warm poultices (stamps) filled with medicinal powder and fresh local herbs. These bundles are applied to the body to induce therapeutic sweating.
Shastika Pinda Sweda
Application of warm poultices made from a special kind of rice cooked in milk and herbal decoctions. The heat and nourishing mixture are gently massaged into the body.
Swedana
This treatment traditionally follows Abhyanga. It is an herbal steam bath where the body is gently heated in a sweatbox (or similar enclosure) infused with special therapeutic herbs. The head remains cool during the process.
Vastis
This category includes various localized Ayurvedic therapeutic treatments. It can range from external oil retention procedures (like Kati Vasti for the lower back or Janu Vasti for the knees) to specialized therapeutic enemas (medicated oil or herbal decoction) designed for deep cleansing and Vata balancing.
Meet the Facilitators
Fabiana Gherrize
Fabiana has 28 years of practising, studying and teaching yoga. She started practising yoga to improve her rock climbing techniques, but then she fell in love with the practice itself, its philosophy and its spiritual path. She has been to India a few times to deepen her knowledge and practice. She discovered how one can be free of suffering and pain, and achieve higher states of mind. She started with traditional Hatha Yoga, which made total sense! It was pure, traditional yoga! After some time, she felt the need for something more, and discovered the Kaiut Yoga Method. This made even more sense, as it enabled her to connect even more deeply with her body. It is a method that was developed to improve the modern body and adapt to modern needs such as stress, anxiety and the busy lifestyle! She keeps the traditional concepts but knows the body needs more!
Dr. med. Claudius Nassabi
MD, PhD. medical doctor and living in Alentejo since 2021.He started his medical career in classical pediatrics and adolescent medicine. He also has worked in the industry, in research but also in the marketing of laboratory diagnostics. During that time, however, he has always dealt with medicine and alternative healing methods and has constantly attained continuous training in these fields. Among others he completed 2 degrees in Ayurvedic Medicine and had been able to experience long stays in India with Indian Ayurveda masters (vaidya). He worked in an anthroposophical clinic as a physician in Germany in the field of pediatrics and adolescent medicine. He has been practicing yoga for 30 years and also has a teacher training in Yin Restorative Yoga. Today he combines this knowledge and (life-)experience in the context of an Integrative medicine, in which the human being as an unique individual is at the center of my medical, alleviating and healing activities.
